Rendition In Favor Of Books La suma de los días

Allende writes to her deceased daughter, giving updates on what has happened in their family since her death. It was hard to get started though, especially since she opens the book describing how she decided to write it because she couldn't think of anything else to write. Allende seems like a sweet mother but I was offended at times by the way she uses stereotypes as descriptors ("...like an Amazon"). I found her to be much more engaging on a recent radio interview describing her latest novel,

Another memoir. It's a bit of a slough though I did enjoy many parts and have adopted a bit of advice she was once given by an analyst:"Stay in your own trench." (this in regards to the whole blended family/stepchildren scenario.)I can see why certain members have requested that she NOT include them in her books. I would opt out if I were in her clan. (not of BEING in her clan, but of being written about/exposed.)

I'm a bit of an Allende fan, and I've always wondered about connections between her life and books. I loved this book. It's a portrait of her Marin County life as well as an extremely interesting, thoughtful, and compassionate woman and her rather unconventional family who have weathered much, yet somehow come out singing and loving. She's also negotiating the joys and ravages of time (she's a grandmother!) in most interesting ways.

Since discovering her novels in high school, Isabel Allende has remained one of my favorite authors. Her personal life, is just as entertaining and dramatic as those of her fictional characters. "The Sum of Our Days" is her second memoir, detailing family events following the death of her daughter Paula, whom she wrote about in her first memoir, aptly titled "Paula". Allende never fails to be interesting and her family proves to be a colorful bunch of characters. Despite a myriad of problems

Though this book contains very much sadness it is a fine read. Following the death of her daughter this is written as if to the child she misses most desperately. Although living in a tribe of her own making - with some colourful characters - Isabel Allende has many obstacles to her happiness.

SO EFFING GOOD.It has a tone of nostalgia and sadness that doesn't put down the broad sarcastic-ish tone of the book.Conmovedor.
